Every year, Crain’s New York Business releases a much-talked about list of the 50 Best Places to Work in New York City. This year, we’re excited to announce that Knewton has made the cut, coming in as the 23rd best place to work in NYC!
We’ve been around now for almost three years, but we still operate very much as a start-up. We wear jeans, work long hours, multi-task like crazy — things are always busy, but never (ever) boring. Our Union Square office is a collection of totally open work-spaces–everyone from the CEO to our interns sits in the same area, to encourage collaboration and open communication. Since inspiration can strike anywhere, the walls in our conference rooms and hallways are whiteboards. Also, our coffee machine looks kind of like a spaceship.
But while we love the perks that come along with our work-hard play-hard philosophy (all-company Friday afternoon gatherings with beer and snacks, anyone?), there’s something bigger driving the people who work at Knewton. We’re all passionate not only about developing Knewton’s products, but about making headway on the company’s larger goal: to transform education for every student, everywhere.
Earlier this year, Knewton was chosen by the World Economic Forum as a 2011 Technology Pioneer–the first education company ever selected. We’re headed to Davos in January, but in the meantime, our employees will be hard at work developing our game-changing adaptive learning engine. And the nice thing is we’ll be having fun doing it…
…like completely overhauling the Knewton entrance on Hack Day. Yes, that’s a head-to-toe painter’s suit that David is wearing.
