Designing the Future of Higher Ed: The First Knewton Symposium

Posted in Knerds on August 20, 2013 by

Last month, we hosted the first Knewton Symposium, “Designing the Future of Higher Education” at the Four Seasons in Boston. With 30 education leaders from the private and public sector in attendance, the event was a rare opportunity to discuss and debate solutions to education’s biggest challenges. How can we improve online tools for students? How can we expand access and improve distribution? How can we cut costs while maintaining — or ideally, improving — learning outcomes? And what, ultimately, is in store for higher education over the next decade?

Highlights included talks from Clayton Christensen; Andy Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Kaplan; Phil Regier, Executive Vice Provost and Dean of ASU Online; George Siemens of Athabasca University; and Paul LeBlanc, President of Southern New Hampshire University; as well as a dinner at Boston’s famed L’Espalier restaurant.

Attendees included senior officials at organizations such as: Harvard Business School, Penn Foster, UMass Online, Dublin City University, Pearson, Lincoln Educational Services, DeVry, Career Education Corporation, EDMC, Penn State, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Economic Forum.

We’re looking forward to hosting many more of these conversations in the future!
