Publishers can make content adaptive and mobile at the same time
Gutenberg Technology (GT), the European leader in LCMS (Learning Content Management System), and Knewton, the leading adaptive learning platform, today launched the first tool to help publishers create mobile, interactive, and personalized content based on each student’s unique needs and progression through a course.
The GT application provides publishers a user interface, content management system (CMS), and Knewton adaptive learning technology to create and package their digital content into continuously adaptive learning applications. At the same time, these educational publishers can leverage Gutenberg Technology’s content authoring tools, MyEcontentFactory 5.0, to create text, rich multimedia (e.g., video and audio), and interactive assessment content.
The first publisher to use the new platform is the Paris-based publisher, LeLivreScolaire.fr, for its French grammar solutions. The GT platform leverages the Knewton API to enable publishers to add adaptive features within a mobile application. These features include:
- A personalized study center where students can access continuously updated recommendations on what to study next.
- Individualized, real-time recommendations for instructional and assessment material, based on each student’s unique needs and background knowledge.
- Predictive analytics that allow students to monitor their proficiency as they move through course material and teachers to better tailor support for every student.
A free prototype of the GT iPad application is available by contacting Gutenberg Technology (firstname.lastname@example.org). A short demonstration video is also available here: http://gutenberg-technology.com/showcase/ in the Education showcases or at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
According to Francois-Xavier Hussherr, CEO of Gutenberg Technology, “Adaptive learning has been the big dream of the 20th and 21st centuries. Now the dream has manifested itself into reality: every student can now take a course personalized to their every need. More students today are using tablet devices and it is time that we work together with publishers to provide mobile applications that are also adaptive.”
Jose Ferreira, CEO of Knewton, says, “A lot of small publishers have great education content but don’t have the resources to make their materials adaptive or available via multiple devices. We’re excited to integrate our technology with Gutenberg Technology’s new platform to help publishers launch digital textbooks and courses that are both personalized to each student and accessible via tablets and smartphones. Together we can help bring adaptive learning materials to more students worldwide.”
